Shoppable Video player

Overview

Showday offers a powerful SaaS platform that enables users to create custom shoppable videos and live streams. To further enhance the user experience and drive higher conversion rates, the company introduced a new in-video Quick Cart shopping feature, making the purchase process more seamless and interactive within video content. Additionally, with the expansion of Shopify’s "Shop Minis" — the integration of Shopify apps into the Shop App ecosystem — this feature will be available across browsers, iOS, and Android, providing a consistent experience across platforms.

My Role

  • Conduct third-party research to identify best practices for video content and shoppable experiences.

  • Gather user insights from key customers to inform design decisions.

  • Define and analyze various use cases to ensure broad applicability.

  • Create high-fidelity mockups for testing, marketing, and development handoff.

  • Collaborate closely with the Shop App "Shop Mini" team to understand platform limitations and integration requirements.

  • Oversee the developer handoff to ensure designs are implemented accurately.

  • Write detailed tickets to document features, responsibilities, and expectations.

  • Manage daily QA and UAT efforts following the staging release.

  • Engage with customers post-launch to assess usability and gather additional feedback for continuous improvement.

Discovery and Research

There is a wealth of insights available online regarding video content and shoppable experiences. For this phase, I focused extensively on resources like Nielsen Norman, Smashing Magazine, Medium, and Mobbin. Additionally, I analyzed competitors within Showday's market, including Videowise, Tolstoy, and Fireworks, as well as drawing inspiration from social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

I also engaged with customers currently using our Livestream product, which has seen the highest user engagement to date. The primary feedback was a desire for a more seamless shopping experience—one where users could view and purchase products directly within the video, without being redirected to a separate product page. Furthermore, users expressed interest in an experience similar to Instagram Reels, where they could easily browse through videos in a more engaging and fluid way.

Video Player

Showday had already developed a livestreaming platform for its users, but there was significant potential to expand the product offering. I led the design and launch of a variety of new features to enhance the user experience.

  • Reels: Inspired by Instagram Reels, these custom videos allowed users to watch content about a product and easily access a call-to-action (CTA) to learn more or make a purchase.

  • Stories: These small, prominent bubbles at the top of a store's page provided a quick way to highlight important updates, driving higher conversion and engagement.

  • Mini-player: A persistent video player that enabled users to watch content without interruption while navigating between different pages of the site.

  • Collections: A customizable display of reels or livestreams in a grid or slider format, allowing store owners to add curated content to any page for better product discovery.

  • Quick Cart: A simplified shopping cart feature that allowed users to easily view, add, or modify items with minimal steps—without leaving the video they were watching.

  • Questionnaire: An interactive click-through video series designed to guide users toward personalized shopping recommendations, improving conversion rates.

  • Remind Me: A feature that allowed users to set reminders for upcoming livestreams or product releases, ensuring they never missed an important update.

  • Discounts: Integrated into both videos and the quick cart, this feature provided personalized offers designed to boost conversion and drive revenue.

Results

The addition of these video enhancements brought significant benefits to our customers. Reels with over 1,000 views generated an average of $457 in new revenue. Stories, when added to product pages, boosted conversion rates by 16%. Meanwhile, the introduction of the Quick Cart feature alone led to a remarkable 27% increase in conversion, resulting in over $10,000 in additional revenue.

Shop Mini App integration

I developed a comprehensive design proposal for the Shop App team, detailing how users would interact with our application within the Shop App ecosystem. Working closely with the UI components provided by the Shop App, I created a test page that mirrored Showday’s branding and user experience, ensuring seamless integration and consistency across platforms.

The page showcased a range of products I had helped Showday develop over the years, including Live Stream Updates, Video Collections, Reels, Stories, and interactive questionnaires. Upon completing this project, Showday received approval from the Shop App team to be integrated with their platform.
